I have an 9 year old beagle she had complete hip replacement surgery when she was about 3 due to being run over. I was kind of afraid it may hurt her…but had to figure out something because she refused to get her nails clipped. I had an old sturdy clothes rack with heavy bottom and with some help hooked it up. She was in no pain, and I was able to cut and file her nails. Def exactly what we needed.
I have a 17lb Pug and bought the XS and it was perfect. My fur baby is 3 years old and hates getting her nails trimmed. It’s always a traumatic experience at the Vet so I have been trying to do it at home. This was my first time being able to trim all of her nails in one go! I did have to have assistance. I probably could have done it on my own but it made it easier to have help. I had my spouse hold a flashlight on her nails so I could see properly and give her treats while I trimmed. She tried to wiggle free but she wasn’t able to. Definitely recommend !!
I tried every type device and technique but one of my dogs would not tolerate her nails being trimmed until I got this suspending hammock. I had to buy my own hooks, and used a counter height chair under a closet rod to put it on the dog and hook to the closet rod, then slowly removed the chair. I was able to then safely clip all front nails on the first try! The dog was busy trying to figure out why she was flying and didn’t put up a fuss for a few minutes, then a back foot found the wall and she was able to get some traction and protest so the session ended. I will have to find a place to suspend her completely away from any walls to be successful with all four paws next time. Gave only 4 stars because it came without hooks or suggestions where to hang. My dog was well supported, safe from injury, and thoroughly distracted. Excellent tool for the clip-fearful dog!
Even though I have a “small” basset hound, he is super strong when it comes to resisting getting his nails cut. I bought this as the final thing to try before taking him to be sedated to have his nails trimmed, and it worked perfectly. He wiggled a little with the first toenail on each front foot, then relaxed and let me quickly and efficiently cut his toenails. I would very highly recommend this for anybody who struggles with a rambunctious dog when trimming their nails.
I ordered this for my dogs I ordered the smallest I could get and it's still way too big for my tiny dogs so I can't use it be okay if you had a dog bigger than 5 to 15 lb
I had no idea this would make it so much easier to clip my dogs nails. He has dewclaws and needs them regularly clipped, he's very anxious about it and he always fights us to the point where it takes sometimes 3 people to get it done. My husband recently had to leave for a very long work trip so I tried this hoping at the very least he wouldn't be able to struggle as much. I had no idea it would be effective beyond my imagination. He barely even twitched. He was so calm and easygoing through the process I couldn't believe it was the same dog. His tail was even wagging!! He actually loved hanging there. It was so much less stressful on him, I didn't even have to drug him as I usually do. Thank you so much and I will be using this every time from now on. He got a very large bone afterward for being such a good boy.
This works perfect. I was spending so much money per month for my dogs to have toes clipped at petsmat. They even told me I could take my daschund anymore because it caused him too much stress. With this product I am able to clip there nails without the trauma. And the sling holds them still.
I wish I could have taken photos but, our first round was a bit of trial and error mixed with minor chaos. We have three dogs in our house and was able to use this on all of them. It was not a perfect fit for any of them but, got the job done. We have not been able to trim our dogs nails on our own for some time as none of our dogs are big fans and it has proven much easier and quicker to pay someone. However, this can be a lot of time and money with three dogs. Notes - we also purchased an inexpensive nail grinder on amazon. My husband was able to quickly clip nails and then I went behind and used the grinder for smoothing. With our dogs we placed a table underneath them. Got them on the table then placed them in the hammock. While I held the hammock up, my husband used ratchet straps to hook to the hammock and lift them up. We used an exposed floor joist in our basement as the support. With our dogs we found that they had to be lifted completely off the surface both front and back so that they could not make contact and push off. One of our dogs found a work around this by pushing off of my husband while clipping. Two of our dogs are large and wigglers, so it helped that I comforted them and gave them treats to keep them still (food worked as treats as all three of our dogs are very much food driven). Now for the dogs and fit. You want to make sure you have the hammock laid right to begin with. I laid it on the table before lifting the dogs onto the table so that I could put their feet in and lift up. Our oldest and largest boy is a chunky lab/hound mix weighing in at about 84lbs. I would have preferred a bit longer hammock for him but, it supported his weight just fine. As he wiggled around he ended up with the front of the hammock sliding down and pushing on him in a way that did not look very comfortable - luckily we were close to done. Our second is a german sheppard weighing in around 70lbs. The hammock fit him the best as he is lean - he was the most active boy and for this a slightly bigger hammock would have also been ideal. Lastly, we have a mini aussie, a chunky girl weighing in between 30-35lbs. The hammock was a little long as far as leg spacing but can bunch up to make work. Having the most available fabric around her, the size actually worked best to helo ensure that she did not escape or wiggle out. We were able to clip all three dogs nails in about thirty minutes with all the change outs and two adults. Yes I would definitely recommend this for those that need another option for trimming nails at home. I would definitely purchase this again and will be on the search for a larger size for more comfort for our guys.
